Baked apples
Adapted from Miss Dahl’s Voluptuous Delights, HarperCollins 2009

4 big cooking apples, cored
1 tbsp butter
50g soft brown sugar
50g raisins
30g chopped walnuts
a little freshly grated nutmeg
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole star anise
a few cloves

- Preheat the oven to gas 4/180C
- Combine the butter, sugar, raisins, walnuts and nutmeg
- Stuff this mixture into the centres of the apples
- Place the apples into a baking dish and scatter the cinnamon, star anise and cloves around them. Add a few cms of water to the baking dish so the apples are sitting in it
- Bake for 40 mins or so until the apples have partly exploded
- Serve immediately with creme fraiche and enjoy!
